Randall Ritchey: Blues 1 - Hurricanes 3 + Blues Rumors The Carolina Hurricanes controlled the puck for the majority of the game and despite a strong game from Jaroslav Halak, the Blues fall to the Hurricanes, 3-1.
Chris Stewart was moved to the top line tonight, and it looks like the Blues could have been showcasing him as he's rumored to be in a potential deal with the New York Rangers.

I would send a second round pick or a 3rd and a prospect like Cade Fairchild/Ryan Tesink. I wouldn't do anymore than that unless Army can get him to ink a new deal.

Blues would be ridiculous to play against with Callahan.

Steen/Backes/Oshie
Schwartz/Berglund/Tarasenko
PRV/Sobotka/Callahan
Morrow/Lappierre/Reaves

Can put in Roy for Morrow or PRV depending on the opponent. I'd be good with Stewart & our second or mid tier prospect for Callahan.

if the rangers move callahan for stewart, a piece like a 1st round pick or a top prospect would have to be included. thats what I think it'll take to get callahan

No way this is going down, but if it did...they would be a very very scary team.

A player who is signed to a contract and is having a better year for a player who could possibly be a rental.....

Am I missing something......

Don't over evaluate what you have without realizing what you are getting back!!!

this is contingent on callahan being signed to a long term deal. and callahan is the kind of player every team in the league wants to have on there team....a guy like callahan would probably help the islanders more than a guy like vanek

If Callahan is signed, then I could see a first going the other way. But value wise, the Blues would deal Stewart and a 1st for him as a rental.

Considering that St.Louis is talking to Callahan's people the Rangers would assume that St.Louis is going to resign him in any deal (meaning a 1st minimum would come back). Only way the deal is less is if the Blues play hard ball knowing that Callahan is a lock for resigning.

I could be wrong though.

I could see a conditional first dependent on him re-signing, but I can't picture going all in giving up Stewart and a first for just a rental, given the uncertainty surrounding our goaltending this year. Not saying Callahan isn't worth it, but that it doesn't make sense to make those sorts of move fairly early in the teams window.

There are a lot of question marks right now. The ideal trade would be Stewart and a conditional pick. A 1st if the Blues win the cup OR resign him. If neither happen a 2nd.

Ok, let's look at the worst case scenario. Blues trade for him, can't re-sign him, and don't win a cup.

You are ok with dealing Stewart and a 2nd for a couple of months of Callahan?

Stewart has more value than that, regardless of how you guys feel about him. If the Blues deal him, fine. They better get a better deal than that though.

Vanek is a proven scorer, Callahan is a very good player,
So NO, Vanek is more worthy than Callahan on the Isles bc the Isles have enough guys like Callahan.
We all know Callahan is known for his defensive play not his scoring ability. His offensive production is only a plus, but stop thinking that his better than Vanek.
It all depends on how a team is built and what is needed....

Just bc Stewart does not maybe play hard on every shift, this guy has very good value...
I think that you may have too many of the same type of players on roster, but Stewart is very good.

No way your GM gives up a 1st for a rental w/Stewart, makes no sense

Damn it.

You started out good like you knew what you were watching. Invest in a dvr and rewatch it a bit.

"Oshie a leaping hit...' LOL. Yeah okay. One his feet stayed on the ice the entire time. It was an elbow that rolled up a bit.

Morrow took some bad penalties but the second one was more bs and bad luck. That happens.

To say that Halak was the beat player on the ice for the Blues is a joke.

What I would say is that yet again in a close game the other team's goaltender out played the Blues netminder. Halak was good mot great the other guy was great.

I also think a huge part of the game was Hitchcock being out coached.

You are down 2-1 you get a power play. Hey how about a unit where we throw out Stewart, Berglund and Morrow?????? This to start the power play???

Though this was not one of Jackman's worst games the man still finds his way into the line up while Leopold and Cole get rotated??? Seriously even when Jackman helps cost us games.

How about putting Stewart on the first line for more than a couple of shifts?

I would rather see Reaves playing than Stewart.

Besides the power play Roy looked bad mostly on five on five play.

Morrow just looks out of place more times than not. The man is lucky he only gets called for penalties as much as he does.

At this point Morrow needs to watch some games. If there teams interested in Stewart that move needs to be made. The guy has a lot of skills but he cannot think the game, plays too much on the perimeter and loses puck battles especially in the defensive zone.

The Blues need to move a goalie and see what Allen shows. Oh wait they can't really now not enough time to tell.

So now you better over pay for a goaltender that can play and steal some games for you.

Also do not put too much into some of the game stats as many venues inflate them for their team and miss a lot for the other team. Especially when it comes to hits and scoring chances.

For real, if that it's how you are going to treat people, just go away. There is no need for that.

Callahan is precisely better than Vanek because he can play at both ends of the ice.

Vanek is another one of those soft players with tremendous skill who fail to have the heart to dominate the game. There is no reason Vanek should not be one of the best playeers in the league and as it is he is not even close to being one of the best players.

Defense wins championships. Part of defense is a good offense but not in the sense that an offense is one dimensional.

That said Stewart is worth more than a rental and a second. Though that is not that bad of a trade. But one would think the Blues may be want to trim salary for a bigger move.

Why would you play Berglund there and not Sobie? Sobie is better and has better chemistry with those two.

Its all speculative based on what team needs...
Vanek is easily a 30-40 goal scorer, Callahan is not.
The Isles would need Vanek more than Callahan bc of scoring ability.
But to say Callahan is better than Vanek is not true and Im not even being a homer, it very hard to find consistent goal scorers in this league
